When I bought the first collection of "Cable and X-Force" I noted that the series had potential with its character choices and was worth getting on the ground floor with. As Dennis Hopeless' run comes to a close, I feel like the elevator broke down.

Review # 79: "X-Men - Second Coming" (and "Second Coming: Revelations")
"Second Coming" is a landmark event for the X-Men, wrapping up the Hope Trilogy with the greatest threat mutantkind has faced as a species: complete annihilation. They have saved the world before, they've faced monstrous fellow mutant supervillains with grand designs that would leave bodies in their wake. They have not, however, faced a hate crime so massive that it threatens to kill them all.

Review # 65: "X-Force/Cable - Messiah War"
"Messiah War" is a big, fat slice of the 90s served up in 2009. X-Force. Cable. Bishop. Stryfe. Apocalypse. It's an over-the-top romp with big guns, cannon fodder and a lot of interior monologue. However, it learns from the past by not getting trapped in 90s mistakes. The stories don't drag, the villains don't state the obvious and both sides fight each other without trying to compete on a debate team.

Review # 14: "Avengers Vs. X-Men Companion"
At an unparallelled level, AvX DOMINATED the lines of Marvel's two largest team franchises, which are hot with collectors. In Marvel's wisdom, they included lots of bonus content with the hardcover release of the main story, then compiled the others into a companion piece. I'm going to go through them bit-by-bit (since the main line can be purchased without add-ons) and let you know if they're worth your time. I'll give a thumbs up, thumbs down or thumbs in the middle, then have an overall rating for the companion omnibus at the end. Cool? Cool.
